¡No Pasarán!?

I've taken a break from reading an Army at Dawn and currently have my head stuck in George Orwell's Homage to Catalonia, an autobiography of his time fighting with one of the republican militias in the Spanish Civil War. A hugely enjoyable work and very well written, it has got the old noggin pondering Spanish Civil War wargaming...

I do have a desire to undertake some inter-war project and I have started a German Civil War one (started as in added some white metal to "Lead Mountain" started) but the struggles and bravery of the militias fighting against the fascists in the early period of the Spanish war is tugging at me and I am considering a small section level project like the Blitzkrieg one. Those Empress figures certainly look tempting...

  1. Its those Paul Hick sculpts you cant help yourself. It is strange for at the moment I can not decide between 28mm and Empress or 20mm and the likes of Minairons miniatures

  2. With the arrival of the Minairons 20mm I had the same dilemma... I've just given in and decided to do both, which after a while made a strange sort of sense when you weigh up the pros and cons of just picking one.

  3. Can't recommend the Empress stuff enough, it really does paint up well, detail and character superb. Not cheap but our little group started with a few figs and now we have 3 10 litre Really Useful Boxes full. Some pics on t'blog http://yarkshiregamer.blogspot.co.uk/ might help to get the juices flowing. Look forward to seeing the results.

  4. I have little interest (through ignorance more than anything else) in the Spanish Civil War, but I absolutely love the look of those Empress figures. I was just on the site the other day ogling, and am not far off from buying some to paint up and hopefully use in the future, in some way. Love 'em.
