Wargames Factory Revisited

I've eventually got around to playing with the Wargames Factory Amazons I picked up at Salute and the first observation is that detail and moulding wise they are a ten fold improvement on the first releases from the company with none of the soft detail that blighted the Republican Romans and other releases, giving the company such a bad rep.

Indeed I was so impressed with the Amazons that I picked up a box of Persian Cavalry to use in a conversion project (the horses are beautiful, the photo does not do them justice) and with a view to an Old Skool Warhammer Cathay/Nippon army some boxes of Ashigaru and Samurai. Like the Amazons the detail is very sharp and I am looking forward to clearing the decks to allow me to start sticking them together. The only challenge will be painting them, Samurai being a subject I have steered well away from over the years... :-)

  1. Unusual to hear positive comments about Wargames Factory. Were there enough components to arm all your Persians in the box? I'd heard some horror stories.

    1. With the same weapon? No. The box contains 12 figures with 8 bows, 6 javelins, 6 "Greek" swords, 4 swords, 4 warhammers and 3 long spears. So 40 weapons for 12 figures but not enough of nyone to arm a unit of 12 the same. However the Amazon box is similarly overloaded with the same weapon sprues (as well as hoplite spears) so if I did want to make 12 bow armed cavalry there is enough left over in that box. You also get 12 horses heads with reins and 12 without so I'm going to have a few left over! :-)

    2. How were they for mould-lines? The other factory sets I've bought all had mould lines straight down the face from forehead to chin.

    3. Nothing of any consequence. I've been using the helmeted Amazon heads tonight which are moulded in a way that any mould lines would be down the front of the face but there is nothing to be cleaned up. The bare heads are moulded front and back with the mould line being through the ears but again nothing problematical...

    4. Ah, I think that's what I must have heard about. So you could easily make 6 with bows, 6 with javelins? Cool. You've changed my mind about trying WF again.

  2. Huh. I have a box of their Hoplites that look fine, but the Amazons always looked kind of awkward from the pics I've seen online. Look forward to seeing yours put together.
